Our Journey to Lapland
Where and when can I see the Northern Lights?
Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort
We stayed in one of the Kelo Glass Igloos in Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort, and it was one of the most magical experiences of my life. The best thing about staying in the glass igloo is that you can observe the night sky from under your down feather blanket. Temperatures reached -20 degrees Celcius with a real feel of almost -30.
The nice thing about the Kelo Glass Igloos is that there is a fireplace. When the temperatures start dropping, sometimes the heater power is not enough to keep the whole igloo warm so it can get a little cold. One downside is you need to buy your own wood, and it ends up getting slightly expensive especially if you want to keep warm for the whole day.
The resort offers a wide range of fun activities, such as dog sledding, snowmobile safaris, aurora borealis safaris and many more. You can check the list of activities here. One of the activities that we were able to experience was the winter husky safari. I shed a little tear because everything was just so beautiful and it felt so surreal, despite my feet and hands being frozen.
Overall, the trip was one I will remember for the rest of my life, and I also look forward to visiting this place again in the near future. If you want to see the beauty of this place in video, I’ve posted a vlog here:
