Caza Boutique Hotel: The Unbreakable Heart of General Luna, Siargao

Updated: 5 days ago

Siargao is a special place—a tropical canvas of world-class waves, swaying palms, and sun-drenched days. Yet, the real magic of this island isn't just in its natural beauty; it’s in the incredible strength of the people who call it home.

Every time we visit General Luna, we look for places that feel more like a sanctuary than just a hotel. Caza Boutique Hotel is exactly that, but its charm runs deeper than stylish design and comfortable beds. Caza isn’t just a place to stay; it’s a living testament to an unshakeable spirit, driven by its owner, Zati, and her unwavering love for the island.

This is the story of a dream, a devastating storm, and an incredible comeback.

The Two-Year Storm: A Dream Drowned and Reclaimed

When you walk through Caza today, soaking in the beautiful, tranquil atmosphere, it’s almost impossible to imagine the sheer devastation the owner faced—not once, but twice.

The dream began with excitement, with the hotel opening its doors in late December 2019. Tragically, that initial taste of success was brief, as the hotel was forced to close by the second week of March 2020 due to the sudden onset of COVID-19.

During the pandemic, the operations had to pause for nearly two years, as the island closed its doors to travelers. Even in that quiet time, Zati continued to care for the property — keeping it alive, even when the world seemed still.

Just as they were finally ready to reopen in late 2021, Typhoon Odette (Rai) hit and changed everything overnight.

It took almost two years before the insurance funds arrived, allowing Zati to rebuild what the storm had taken and breathe life back into KAZA once more. It also took for the repairs around 1 year and a half of completion.

It was in this wreckage that Zati found a deeper, more profound purpose:

"I’ve poured everything I have into this place — there’s truly no other way for me. Sometimes, we make investment decisions out of impulse, and I get it — it’s not always the wisest thing to do. You never really see how deeply it can ruin you until you’re standing in the middle of it, watching everything you built start to break. But even in the wreckage, I’ve learned that what the enemy meant for harm, God will always turn for good. This had to happen — not to destroy me, but to teach me. It’s teaching me patience, humility, discernment, and faith. Maybe that’s what growth looks like sometimes — being stripped down so you can be rebuilt the right way."

The Unveiling: A Triumph of Love and Labor

What followed was another agonizing two-year standby. A waiting game filled with complex logistical challenges and the sheer will to start again from zero.

But resilience always wins on Siargao.

In 2023, construction was bravely restarted. It was a massive, painstaking effort to not just rebuild what was lost, but to make it stronger, better, and more beautiful. Finally, the dream was realized and the construction was finished in 2024.

And this January, the beautiful Caza Boutique Hotel opened its restaurant, welcoming the world back into its sanctuary.

Today, when you check into Caza, you are not just a guest—you are a partner in a triumph. You are supporting a dream that weathered COVID, stood empty and run-down, survived a Super Typhoon, and was lovingly rebuilt with grit and passion.
