The Ultimate 1-Day Off-the-Beaten-Path Bohol Itinerary

While the Chocolate Hills and the Tarsier Sanctuary are the crown jewels of Bohol tourism, there is an entirely different world waiting for you in the rugged mountains of the east. If you’re like me and crave adventures that don't involve tour buses or souvenir stalls, this 1-day Bohol mountain itinerary is for you.

We’re trading crowded viewpoints for secret cold springs, unmapped waterfalls, and a "pre-internet" vibe where the only way to find your destination is by talking to the locals.

Stop 1: The Mission to Ughuban Spring (Garcia Hernandez)

Our day starts in the municipality of Garcia Hernandez. Most travelers pass through this town on their way elsewhere, but they are missing out on Ughuban Spring.

How to Find the "Magical" Spring

From the town center, head toward the mountains. Your main landmark is Cambuyo High School. Once you pass the school, drive about 100–200 meters further. Keep your eyes peeled for a bent-over tree leaning across the road; this is your unofficial signpost.

From here, you’ll see rustic cottages nestled in the valley. If you cross a mini-bridge, you’ve gone too far! The beauty of Ughuban is the total lack of cell signal. It’s the perfect place to disconnect and immerse yourself in the icy-cold, crystal-clear mountain water.

Stop 2: A Quick Snack at Cambuyo Elementary School

After a refreshing dip, head back toward the Cambuyo Elementary School area. This is a great spot to take a breather. I highly recommend bringing some local snacks or buying a few treats from the nearby sari-sari stores. It’s a wonderful way to support the local community and soak in the quiet, pastoral life of the Boholano highlands before the next leg of the adventure.

Stop 3: Trekking to Hinagdanan Falls

Don’t confuse this with the famous cave in Panglao! Hinagdanan Falls in Garcia Hernandez is a completely different experience. To reach it, you’ll embark on a 30-minute hike through lush terrain.

The trail is scenic but can be slippery, so wear sturdy sandals or water shoes. The reward is a stunning, tiered waterfall tucked away in the forest. Unlike the more famous falls in Bohol, you’ll often find you have this entire natural playground to yourself.

Stop 4: Pahangog Falls (The Dimiao Twin Falls)

As we begin the journey back toward Panglao, we’ll stop in the municipality of Dimiao. Tucked deep in the jungle is Pahangog Falls, also known as the Twin Falls.

The walk down involves a long flight of stairs and a dirt path, but seeing the twin curtains of water cascading into a vast, turquoise basin makes every step worth it. The limestone surroundings give the water a magical, milky-blue glow that is absolutely peak "Travelling Foxes" aesthetic.

Stop 5: Ingkumhan Falls (The Local Favorite)

Our final stop before hitting the main highway back to the bridge is Ingkumhan Falls. This is another "off-the-radar" spot that locals love.

What makes Ingkumhan special is its wide, sloping rock face and a deep natural pool. It features a vine swing for those looking for a bit of an adrenaline rush! It’s the perfect way to burn off that last bit of energy before the sunset drive back to the beach.

Travel Tips for Your Bohol Mountain Mission

  • Transportation: I highly recommend renting a scooter or hiring a private car. The mountain roads are paved but steep and winding. If you aren't confident on a bike, hire a Habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) from Garcia Hernandez town proper.

  • Offline Maps: Since there is zero signal in the Ughuban and Hinagdanan area, download your maps offline or—better yet—embrace the "Fox Hunt" and ask the friendly locals for directions.

  • What to Pack: Water shoes, a dry bag for your camera gear, plenty of sunblock, and enough cash (there are no ATMs in the mountains!).

Why These Spots? (SEO Insights)

If you're searching for "unique things to do in Bohol" or "Bohol waterfalls itinerary," you'll notice most guides stick to the South. By exploring Garcia Hernandez and Dimiao, you're seeing the "real" Bohol—rugged, untouched, and incredibly welcoming.

Are you ready to find the bent tree?

Stay adventurous, Foxes!
