Hey everyone, Nat here! Welcome back to another adventure. If you're looking for Travel, Tourism, & Fun in the Philippines, you know I've got you covered. Today we are heading to the eastern side of Bohol to visit an absolute stunner: Can-umantad Falls.

The eastern side of Bohol holds some of the province's best-kept secrets. It’s an area I know well, especially with my dad’s man-made forest property just next door in Guindulman. The landscape in this part of the island is painted in my absolute favorite deep autumn tones: the rich forest greens of the dense tropical canopy, the deep earthy browns of the winding mountain trails, and the golden, mustard-yellow hues of the rice terraces glowing in the sun.
Let’s dive into everything you need to know about visiting this majestic spot!
What is Can-umantad Falls Known For?
Towering at an impressive 60 feet, Can-umantad is officially the tallest waterfall in Bohol. Its name translates to "sixty" (can-uman), representing its sheer height. What makes this waterfall so magical isn't just the massive drop, but the multi-tiered cascades that crash into a vibrant emerald basin below. It’s surrounded by completely untouched nature, and you can even explore a small cave hidden directly behind the curtain of water.

Where is it Located?
You’ll find Can-umantad Falls tucked away in Barangay Can-umantad, in the municipality of Candijay. This is on the eastern side of Bohol, roughly a two-to-three-hour drive away from the busy tourist hubs of Panglao and Tagbilaran. It shares the same area as the stunning Cadapdapan Rice Terraces and the Canawa Cold Spring, making it an epic day-trip destination.
How to Get There from Tagbilaran
Candijay is about 92 kilometers from Tagbilaran City. The most convenient way to explore at your own pace is to rent a car and drive yourself. The main highways leading up to the Candijay town center are well-paved and scenic.
Renting a Car: Having your own wheels gives you the ultimate freedom. You can easily book a self-drive compact car or an SUV in Tagbilaran (rates usually start around Php 1,500 to Php 2,500 per day depending on the vehicle type). Here are a few great places to check for rentals and reserve in advance:
The Motorbike Adventure
Once you reach the Lungsod Daan Public Market in Candijay, you'll need to leave the four-wheelers behind. The road leading directly to the falls is incredibly steep, bumpy, and winding—definitely not suited for a standard rental car.
From the market, you will hire a habal-habal (a local motorcycle taxi). A round-trip ride costs around Php 200. Hold on tight, because the ride up into the mountains is half the adventure!

The Hike Down
After the motorbike drops you off at the registration area, get ready to stretch your legs. The hike down to the waterfall takes approximately 30 minutes. You'll descend around 200 to 400 steep steps, which weave right past the breathtaking Cadapdapan Rice Terraces.
A quick tip: The path gets very slippery, especially if it rained the night before. Wear sturdy, non-slip footwear! The hike back up is quite the workout, so bring plenty of drinking water.
Entrance Fee
Nature this beautiful comes with a price tag, but thankfully, it's incredibly budget-friendly. The entrance fee is just Php 20.00 for adults. If you want a local guide to show you the safest spots to swim or take photos, there's no set fee, but a tip of around Php 100 is highly recommended and appreciated.
